Terms of Use
Deutsche Fassung lesenThis is a translation for your convenience; in case of doubt the German version applies.
1. Who we are and what this covers
Travelog is offered by Raffael Jambor, 1220 Vienna, Austria (support@paloaltea.app; full details in the legal notice). These terms govern the use of the Travelog app on iOS and, once available, on Android, as well as the beta version via TestFlight. They apply alongside the terms of the store you obtain the app from; for purchases through the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies in addition, unless these terms provide otherwise. By installing and using the app you accept them. How we handle data is described in the privacy policy.
2. The app: Free and Pro
Travelog is a travel companion: you plan trips, collect tickets and documents, get hints on the road and keep what happened. The app works local-first: your data lives on your device, there is no account with us, and the core features work without a network.
Free of charge (Free) you can create up to three trips; the AI features are not available there. Pro lifts that limit and unlocks entering your own Anthropic API key for the AI features. What exactly Pro contains and costs is shown in the app before purchase; prices are set by the store in your currency.
3. Pro as a subscription or a one-time purchase
Yearly subscription. The subscription runs for one year and renews automatically for a further year each time unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The amount is charged to your store account, for the renewal within the last 24 hours before expiry. You can cancel at any time in your device's subscription settings (the app links there); the cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period, and Pro remains usable until then. There is no pro-rata refund for the remaining term. Price changes are announced by the store; they apply to you only if you agree to them there.
One-time purchase. Alternatively you can buy Pro once. The one-time purchase does not expire, does not renew and need not be cancelled. If you own both, the app points out the running subscription – you have to cancel it yourself, the store does not do so on its own.
Restoring. Purchases are tied to your store account. On a new device you bring them back with "Restore purchases".
When Pro ends – because you cancelled the subscription or a payment fails – all your trips remain intact and readable. Only what Pro unlocks is locked: creating more than three trips and entering the API key.
Withdrawal and refunds. Your contractual partner for the purchase is the operator of the store. Whether and how you can withdraw from a purchase or obtain a refund follows its rules; with Apple this is "Report a problem" on the receipt. We can neither see nor refund purchases.
4. AI features
The AI features run with your own API key directly between your device and Anthropic. You are responsible for the key, for the costs it incurs and for complying with Anthropic's terms of use. The monthly limit in the app is an aid, not a guarantee: it counts what the app requested, not what Anthropic bills.
What the AI produces are suggestions. Itineraries, packing lists, information on entry requirements, tipping or local specialities are not checked by us and may be wrong, incomplete or out of date. They are not a warranted feature of the app and do not replace checking with official bodies – especially for entry requirements, for which the app always shows the way to the official source. You decide what you adopt.
5. Information from third parties
Travel warnings, exchange rates, Wikipedia articles, map data and links to the status of a connection come from third parties. We pass them on as they come, without warranty for accuracy or currency; the app shows when something was last fetched. For decisions that cost money or may be dangerous – a booking, an entry, a trip into a crisis region – the official source is authoritative, not the app. Travelog does not replace official warning apps: the app checks warnings when opened, not in the background.
6. Your data, your responsibility
Because your data lives only on your device, backing it up is up to you as well. The app offers a backup into your iCloud and an export as a file; use at least one of them. We can neither see nor restore data – not even if you lose the device or delete the app. The app shows tickets and boarding passes as they were imported; whether a ticket is valid is decided by the carrier, not the app.
7. Planning together
You can share trips with others. The invitation is the key: whoever has it can read and edit the trip. Give it only to people you trust with it; we cannot recall a trip once shared and cannot see who has it. What fellow travellers change is shown in the activity list; tickets are never shared.
The mailbox you can switch on per trip is a storage relay we operate at Cloudflare. It passes encrypted packets between devices, nothing more: packets are deleted after 30 days, space per trip is limited to 50 MB, and under unusually many requests the service slows down. There is no promise that every packet reaches everyone – the file always remains the second route. We may change or discontinue the mailbox with reasonable notice; the app then continues to work without it.
8. What is not permitted
- using the app or the mailbox to store or distribute unlawful content, or to harass other people;
- deliberately overloading, circumventing or probing for weaknesses in the mailbox or other services the app talks to, without asking us first;
- modifying or decompiling the app or circumventing its protection mechanisms, except where the law expressly permits it;
- violating the terms of the services the app uses on your behalf – such as OpenStreetMap's usage policy or Anthropic's terms.
9. Licence and third-party rights
You receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app on devices you own or control and that are linked to your store account. The app and its contents remain our property or that of the respective rights holders. Map data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors (Open Database License), Wikipedia texts are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0, images from Wikimedia Commons under the licence shown in the app. Trademarks such as Apple, iPhone, TestFlight, App Store and Claude belong to their owners.
10. Beta via TestFlight
During the beta you receive the app via TestFlight; Apple's TestFlight terms apply in addition. A beta is unfinished. Features may change or disappear, bugs may corrupt data, and an update may require starting over. Keep a backup current during the beta. Feedback you give us may be used to improve the app without giving rise to any claims. We may end the beta at any time or exclude individual testers; there is no entitlement to participate. The beta runs on the same environment as the finished app. What you create is kept. During the beta, Pro is unlocked for all testers. Whoever tests keeps Pro for life. This applies until further notice and is a gift, not an entitlement.
11. Warranty and liability
Your statutory warranty rights remain unaffected. For the free edition and the beta we give no warranty that the app is uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose.
We are liable without limit for intent and gross negligence and for damage to life, body and health. For slight negligence we are liable only for the breach of obligations whose fulfilment makes proper use of the app possible in the first place and on whose observance you may rely, and then limited to the typical damage foreseeable at the time of contracting. In particular we are not liable for decisions you take on the basis of AI suggestions or third-party information, for missed connections, for lost data you had no backup of, or for costs incurred through your API key. Mandatory consumer law remains unaffected.
12. Notes regarding Apple
These terms are between you and us, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app, its maintenance or its support and gives no warranty; if the app fails, you may at most reclaim the purchase price from Apple, and any further claims are directed at us. We, not Apple, are responsible for third-party claims, for example regarding product liability or infringement. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US embargo and are not on a US sanctions list. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
13. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms when the app, the legal situation or our services change. We announce essential changes in the app or on this website at least four weeks in advance. If they affect a running subscription and you do not agree, you may cancel it at the end of the current period; if you continue to use the app after they take effect, the new terms apply.
14. Applicable law, dispute resolution
Austrian law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another country, the mandatory protective provisions of that country remain available to you. We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration body – write to us; most questions can be settled that way. Should a provision of these terms be invalid, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
These terms are available in German and English. In case of discrepancies the German version prevails.
